After revealing the first death from influenza in the state, the federal Ministry of Health declared that it is facing an alarming outbreak of influenza, leading the country with 12 new cases daily and 80 reports in the last week alone.
In addition, the federal agency revealed that 493 cases that have occurred so far in 2024 are added to 463 within the interseason that runs from May to October, with which the state reached 453 in this period.
Likewise, health authorities confirmed the first death of a person from this disease. So far there are 11 deaths in the region, five from Quintana Roo, five in Campeche, and one in Yucatan.
In the 2024 interseasonal influenza season, the main states of residence with the highest number of reported cases are Yucatán (23.7%), Guerrero (8.9%), Campeche (7.7%), Tabasco (6.0%) and Quintana Roo (5.0%).
The federal agency points out that influenza is a respiratory disease that, although commonly associated with the winter season, can also occur at other times of the year, such as in this interseasonal phase.
The transmission of the virus is favored by sudden changes in temperature and the high mobility of the population, which has contributed to the increase in cases in Yucatán.
