After months of hard work, the harvest of Tilapia began at the GICA aquaculture farm, which is a family project of the spouses Pedro Girón Méndez and Silvia Berenice Castillo López in the town of Peto, Yucatan.

The couple started this family business with the investment of their savings; now, after six months of continuous work, they began to see the fruits of their effort with the harvest and sale of the product.

Based on work around the clock, the couple has been consolidating the project, a time in which they have had setbacks, but also successes, according to Pedro Girón.

It is the first time that they have ventured into the activity and they hope to be able to move the specimens without problems; in fact, they have already begun the sale at the farm located on 31-A street with 21, heading towards the plots of the former quarry, where the double lane of the new Vivah II avenue begins.

Currently, the fish weigh between 400 and 600 grams on average and are ready for consumption. They are sold at $110 per live kilo and $120 per gutted kilo.

Although they are selling the product at retail, the GICA aquaculture farm has enough production to be able to make wholesale sales, he assured.

Pedro Girón stated that if someone wants to buy tilapia wholesale, they can call 99-71-27-53-74 for more information.

The sale of specimens takes place from Monday to Sunday, from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon, and those who wish to purchase the product can also go to the farm.

The interviewee indicated that to guarantee that fresh fish is being sold, at the time of sale the tilapia are taken out of the tank and weighed in sight. Even if the client wants the guts removed from the fish, it can be done right there.

Pedro Girón and Silvia are the only merchants dedicated to the production and sale of Tilapia fish in Peto, Yucatán.
