During her speech at the Congress of the Union, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, pointed out that one of the projects that she will promote in her administration will be the extension of the route of the Maya Train to the Port of Progreso.
“In terms of infrastructure, the Maya Train will be extended to reach the port of Progreso, in Yucatan, and it will also be a cargo train in its more than 1,500 kilometers,” said Sheinbaum when recounting the main points on which the new government will focus.
It should be noted that this request was made to the now-former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who at the time confirmed that this would happen. In this sense, the head of the Executive would be confirming a follow-up to the work that is expected to trigger the port of Progreso in terms of international exports.
As part of the announced projects, the President of the Republic reiterated the launch of three new programs: support for women aged 60 to 64, scholarships for students from preschool to high school in public schools; and home medical consultations for senior citizens.
She added the consolidation of the IMSS-Bienestar health system, generating 300 thousands new higher education spaces with new public universities, and the construction of at least one million homes so that young people can acquire them through a rental scheme.
In terms of infrastructure, she recalled the expansion of the Mayan Train and the K-Line of the Interoceanic Train, in addition to new passenger train lines that will connect Mexico City with Pachuca, Nuevo Laredo, and Nogales, in addition to the rescue of the line that leads to Veracruz.
