Hoteliers, shipping companies, and land transport companies are offering a series of discounts as part of a campaign to reactivate Tourism activities on the island of Holbox, which has been affected by recent weather phenomena.
Elpidio Valencia Palomares, commercial manager of Mobility ADO, said that these actions are part of the agreement signed a few months ago with the Association of Hoteliers of that island to reposition the destination.
“The destination is prepared to receive tourists and, despite the events of the last few months, storms, hurricanes… the island is still standing. Starting this month, people who come to Holbox on vacation from Cancun obtain a 30 percent discount on round-trip tickets.” Valencia Palomares said.
Alejandro Cañedo, from the Association of Hotels of Holbox, said that there is unity between the tourist industry of the island to promote and attract a greater number of visitors to this destination.
“Reinforcing (the campaign) and pampering tourists in a way that they are constantly coming, we have many repeat (visitors), that is a very good thing. We just launched it it has a week at most so we can have a better occupancy,” Alejandro Cañedo stated.
Tourism authorities trust that with these discounts of up to 30 percent will be able to bring a significant influx of visitors for the remainder of October, November, and December.
The hotel leader of Holbox specified that this campaign is for all visitors, pointing out that between 15 and 20 percent are repeat tourists, especially national, but they also hope that international tourists will arrive at this destination in the final stretch of the year.
He added that so far the weather conditions have affected the image of the island, even though there have not been major impacts, so they expect that with these discounts more people will come, adding that so far they are at 50 percent occupancy.
