The Gastronomic Federation of Yucatan warned about a clear drop in the arrival of tourists to our state which has been a constant trend all year long.
The president of the group, Carlos Aguirre Aguilar, said that there has been a 16% decrease in visitors in the last 2 months, although, in total, there would be 30% fewer visitors who came to the state throughout 2024.
He pointed out that the impact is national and although it is complicated for Yucatan, it does not compare with that of other destinations such as Cancun, which will be granting days without pay to 20% of workers in the tourism sector.
The lack of strategies negatively impacts the tourism industry
Aguirre Aguillar stressed that the lack of an organization that generates strategies to reduce the bad image of Mexico in the world and the abuses committed against tourists is impacting the sector.
“We destroyed all the structure and infrastructure that we had and now we will have to rebuild and if it is not built at a national level, we as Yucatecans have to build our own. We are in trouble, but we are not hopeless,” he said.
Businessmen must coordinate to generate recovery strategies since in the state there are resources in the Tourism Promotion Trust for 100 million pesos.
The president of the Gastronomic Federation of Yucatan, Carlos Aguirre Aguilar, stressed that coordination was established with the next state authorities, with whom they will seek to establish strategies to improve the attraction of tourists.
