Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, accompanied by his wife, Professor Wendy Méndez Naal, visited the Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education (CREE), which serves around 6,300 people with disabilities a year, providing them with physical, occupational, and language rehabilitation therapies.
During the tour, the Governor stressed the importance for his administration of the inclusion and care of families, particularly those who require the support of their authorities, since according to INEGI (2020), approximately 414,852 people with some disability live in Yucatán, so, he stated, “we are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary skills to develop and have more and better opportunities in life.”
For her part, the Honorary President of DIF Yucatán, teacher Wendy Méndez, highlighted the commitment that DIF has to the families of Yucatán by stating that, “we will serve and work for inclusion and rehabilitation, ensuring that each person receives the support they need to transform their life.”
Among others, CREE offers the service of 78 Basic Rehabilitation Units (UBR) throughout the state, to avoid the transfer of people to the capital; it also has the issuance of credentials for people with permanent disabilities, which allows them to identify themselves to facilitate access to services (10 thousand credentials in the 106 municipalities of the state).
Regarding therapies, CREE provides occupational, language, pulmonary, and oncological physiotherapy; it also offers specialized diagnostics in Audiometry and electroencephalography; The Center serves people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and provides job training to people with hearing, visual, intellectual, and motor disabilities in sectors such as hotels, restaurants and stores.
At the end of the visit, accompanied by the general director of DIF Yucatán, Shirley Castillo Sánchez, Dr. Miguel Vera Santos, and Lic. José Manuel Correa Trejo, from the Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education (CREE), Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena stated that this meeting reaffirms the mission of the Yucatán government to promote a more inclusive and accessible society for all, “Therefore, we will fully support the development of CREE, since it promotes personal, work and educational independence for people with disabilities.”
