Hurricane John left 127 thousand people homeless in Acapulco and damaged 39 thousand houses in the port due to the intense rains caused by the system for four days after it made landfall in Guerrero on the night of September 23 through Marquelia, reported the national coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez Alzúa.
During the morning press conference today, October 4, the national coordinator of Civil Protection announced a balance of the effects derived from the tropical cyclone, and in the case of Acapulco, the official detailed that the amount of water that fell during four days of intense rains represents 84.5 percent of the rain that is recorded in a year in Guerrero.
She added that 39 urban neighborhoods have been identified as having been damaged in Acapulco, as well as 18 rural areas. Laura Velázquez Alcúza recalled that days before Hurricane John made landfall, they had already deployed in the state to deal with possible damage by activating the DN-III plan, the Navy plan, and the National Guard plan.
In the general case of Guerrero, the national coordinator of Civil Protection detailed that 29 municipalities were affected and eight more in the coastal area, which is being attended to by the three levels of government, and food supplies have been delivered to those affected and work is being done to reopen roads.
