The Mayan Renaissance (Renacimiento Maya), is the new state government’s strategy that will bring a strong boost to the economic, educational, and employability sectors of Yucatan, said the new head of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor, Ermilo Barrera Novelo.
He said that this renaissance not only brings with it new opportunities but also reaffirms the commitment of the state government to continue with policies of linkage with universities and promote human talent, as well as bring investments to the interior of the state. According to Barrera Novelo, the governor’s vision is extremely ambitious and is centered on a new industrial development project that Yucatan has required for many years and that, finally, is beginning to become a reality.
He specified that, since the conceptualization, the governor has given clear instructions to structure the necessary work that allows these large projects to be achieved and that one of the main objectives is to attract capital and investors to the state, which means that we will soon see international delegations visiting Yucatan, in order to learn about the opportunities that are being developed.
Barrera Novelo said that this interest in Yucatán is not fortuitous and that the Mayan Renaissance promises to give a new life and face to the state, showing its benefits and everything it has to offer. “The idea is for investors to understand that Yucatán is not only an attractive place for its cultural wealth but also for its potential for economic development,” he emphasized.
He said that, in the next 100 days, the government has very specific instructions to understand and address the importance of business strengthening, as well as to favor productive vocations found in various regions of the state. Financing and the empowerment of women in the economy are priority issues, and Barrera Novelo promised to announce more related actions soon.
He indicated that this vision is based on a clear analysis of the competitive advantages that Yucatan has, which makes it even more valuable and stressed that the link with the educational sector, mainly with universities, is fundamental in this process, especially because the new companies that are established in the state require trained personnel.
The head of the Sefoet stressed the importance of continuing the actions that are already being carried out, pointing out that the large investments that are underway require highly qualified human talent.
Therefore, under the governor’s instruction, a working group has been established that will integrate universities, the Secretariat of Higher Education, and the Secretariat of Economic Development, to address this need for talent that the industry will demand.
He said that a clear example of this industrial drive would be the installation of the Heineken brewery plant in Kanasín, a project that is part of a broader portfolio of initiatives that are being closely followed.
Barrera Novelo emphasized that a message of certainty and gratitude has been sent to the companies that are already operating in the state, highlighting the trust they have placed in Yucatan.
At the same time, those companies that are considering establishing themselves in the state have been welcomed, inviting them to come and learn about the opportunities that exist.
He indicated that the Mayan Renaissance project not only seeks to attract external investment but also to promote comprehensive regional development.
This includes connectivity and the integration of value and supply chains within the state and he explained that the strategy consists of linking these chains with Mérida, the capital, and with the entire south-southeast region of the Peninsula, thus creating a more cohesive and resilient economic ecosystem.
