Mayor Erik Rihani conducts damage assessment in Progreso and surrounding areas

We continue to make our tour throughout the municipality; we see fallen poles, trees, fences, and even a sinkhole in the Chuburná Puerto dock. We will make a complete assessment of the damage until the end of this meteorological phenomenon,” declared the Mayor of Progreso, Engineer Erik Rihani González.

According to the State Government, there is an Orange Alert for the municipalities of the center, north, northeast, and northwest of Yucatán. A Yellow Alert for the municipalities of the east, south, and west of Yucatán. Given the proximity of Hurricane Milton Category 4, the National Civil Protection System has established alerts for the state.

Rihani González also reported on the structural damages in homes, streets, and other spaces that have already been identified by the Public Safety and Traffic Department and will be attended to as the weather permits.

Some of the damages are fallen cables on 62nd Street x 89th and 91st; a fallen pole on 17th Street by 50th in Chicxulub Puerto, the same on 85th Street by 140th and 142nd in Nueva Yucalpeten; a tree about to fall and a telephone pole with low cables on 83rd Street by 54th in Francisco I. Madero; fallen high voltage cables on 71st Street by 46th in Ismael García, to mention a few. As well as the damages in the docks of Chocolate, and the ports of Chuburná, Chelem, and Chicxulub.

Likewise, the mayor reiterated that the Progreso City Council is working in coordination with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to address reports of power outages and restore service as soon as possible.

In addition, he asked citizens to report any incident related to fallen branches, trees, or poles to the numbers 969 935 00 26 of the Municipal Police; 969 103 72 86 for Civil Protection, as well as 911 for emergencies and 089 for complaints.

Finally, Rihani González thanked the City Hall staff and all the departments involved who were working tirelessly before and during the hurricane for the safety and well-being of all residents, and asked for patience from the citizens, “we will be working to respond to each of the reports as quickly as possible.”
