With the arrival of the relics of San Judas Tadeo to the city last week, the bonanza quarter formally began for the stores that sell religious images and related products in the Lucas de Gálvez market, which can double compared to the rest of the year.
Beatriz Narváez León, manager of the “La Reyna del Tepeyac” store, said that this last quarter of the year is the strongest in terms of sales, thanks to the festivities in honor of San Judas Tadeo, the Virgin of Guadalupe, and Santa Muerte, as well as the celebrations around Hanal Pixán, or Day of the Dead.
The interviewee indicated that the good sales began with the purchase of religious items of San Judas Tadeo, whose relics were in Yucatán last week but whose day is October 28. She hopes that the sales around this saint will remain until that day.
“The sale of images due to devotion to this saint has increased and the use of candles and images that lead to blessings has increased. The date of San Judas Tadeo is October 28, the day we observe the most commercial movement, said the merchant.
However, he said that sales will continue at Hanal Pixán since his store sells the green cross that the altars carry, as well as gourds, handmade candles, candles of different colors for the deceased, and traditional wooden toys for deceased children.
“All this increases our sales by up to 50%,” said Narváez León, who added that also on these dates of the Day of the Dead there is usually a lot of sale of items related to Santa Muerte since many people usually venerate her on November 2nd.
The interviewee added that in her store, devotees of this image can find items related to the Holy Dead, such as cigars, tobacco, stick incense, as well as images of various sizes, and candles of all kinds.
