Yucatán has driven the interest of both national and foreign investors in the region”, said the President of the Concanaco Servytur.

After stating that Yucatán continues to position itself as a key reference for investment due to the favorable conditions it offers, such as its security, respect for the rule of law, and strength in private property, the president of the Confederation of Business Chambers (Concanaco Servytur), Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, highlighted that these characteristics have driven the interest of both national and foreign investors in the region.

De la Torre pointed out that Yucatán, with the boost of projects such as the Mayan Train, is on the way to becoming a logistics center for export, especially to the United States, taking advantage of its geographical proximity.

He stressed that the particular vocations of the state, such as the development of human capital, are essential for investments to continue flowing, and stressed that more and more businessmen see Yucatán as a key opportunity for economic growth and development.

He also highlighted the collaboration that there has been between the federal government and the outgoing state government, which has been crucial to attract investments in areas such as energy, infrastructure, tourism, and positioning of the state.

He also mentioned that the incoming government, headed by Joaquín Díaz Mena, will surely continue to improve conditions to continue to strengthen the local economy and the quality of life of the inhabitants.

Regarding labor informality, De la Torre said that 55 percent of workers in Mexico are in this situation, which represents an important challenge for the country.

He emphasized that Concanaco presented a proposal to the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, for the implementation of strategies that allow the incorporation of workers into the formal sector, giving them access to labor benefits such as social security, housing, and financing.

The objective is for municipalities, who tend to tolerate informality, to begin to demand minimum conditions to guarantee that workers have their labor rights.

The business leader stressed that the incorporation of the informal sector into the formal economy would not only improve the living conditions of millions of people but would also represent significant growth for the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), estimated at almost 29 additional points.

He added that, although unemployment rates in Mexico are low, it is crucial to analyze the type of employment that is being offered, ensuring that it is formal and that it meets the benefits that society has built for more than a century.

Finally, De la Torre recalled that Concanaco Servytur is one of the main employer organizations in the country, and has been the founder of key institutions such as IMSS, Infonavit, and Fonacot.

He reaffirmed the confederation’s commitment to continue fighting for all Mexicans to access the social and economic benefits that have been achieved over the years.
