Federal Deputy for Yucatán, Jessica Saidén Quiroz, will chair the Citizen Security Commission in Mexico’s Lower House of Congress.

This appointment places her at the head of an important area in the legislative agenda, in which she has highlighted her commitment to the security and well-being of citizens.

Among the first objectives, she stressed the urgent need to update the secondary laws related to security, specifically mentioning:

  • – Law of the National Guard
  • – General Law of the Public Security System
  • – National Law on the Use of Force

The legislator stressed that the commission will work in close collaboration with the key institutions of the Federal Executive in charge of crime prevention, such as the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), as well as with state and municipal governments.

He also highlighted the importance of incorporating the proposals of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in the regulatory content:

  • – Attention to the causes of crime
  • – Improvement in intelligence and investigation
  • – Strengthening of the National Guard
  • – Better coordination with states, municipalities, and prosecutors

«The security of our country demands that we work together, beyond political differences, because we all want a safer Mexico,» he said.

Saidén reiterated her willingness to work together with the different levels of government and legislative actors.

The commission will seek permanent contact with the Executive branches and a space will be opened for all visions that seek to contribute to the strengthening of public security in Mexico.
