A group of producers found a nest of black widow spiders in the Yuum K’iin greenhouse of the federal government’s Sembrando Vida program on the side of the highway connecting Peto.

Three specimens of this poisonous species were captured and the producers intend to hand them over to health sector personnel so that the authorities can take action.

At first, the producers thought that it was nothing serious, they even indicated that, previously, when they found a black widow specimen they chose to kill it.

However, they already know that this is a delicate issue due to the degree of danger the species poses.

For this reason, they chose to capture some specimens and send them to health sector personnel, so that measures can be taken.

While they were moving grafts, they noticed the presence of the spider and feared that by moving the plants, they could transport them to other places where that species of spider had not been present until now.

They do not know how the first specimens arrived at the nursery and now what they are looking for is to prevent them from spreading to more places, so they hope that measures will be taken in this regard.

Regarding the captured arachnids, they were placed in jars so they could be delivered alive to health personnel. It is worth mentioning that the black widow has been present in several municipalities in the south of the State, including Ticul, Peto, and Tahdziú.
