The festivity in honor of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, which began on Sunday, November 24, with the lowering of the image of the virgin in the presence of numerous faithful, was the reason for the current Provisional Municipal Council chaired by Jorge Enrique May López ordered that the convent of San Antonio de Padua be painted.
During the tour, workers were observed carrying out the work, but some deficiencies were noted in the sanctuary, which suggests that it requires general maintenance, especially on the patio.
For example, at the entrance to the parish, where there are planks, wooden blocks, and metal scaffolding, water leaks during the rainy season and damages the façade on the east side of the Franciscan atrium.
At night two reflectors illuminate the façade, although they are insufficient for the dimensions of the building.
At the back of the convent, which was previously a parking lot, the north side is full of large rocks that the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) left after excavations some time ago in search of a cave under the former convent.
Likewise, the growth of trees and weeds on the roof and side of the entire property is notable. Even the lower part lacks lighting. Furthermore, one of the recurring problems on these dates is the drain in the backyard, located on the south side, which usually overflows when pilgrims arrive.
