On Friday, November 15, a tragedy occurred in the municipality of Hunucmá, when a few minutes after 10 pm, a fatal collision occurred on the corner known as the “Brazo Fuerte” in the downtown area, shocking the residents.
HUNUCMA, YUCATAN.- According to the facts, two employees of Grupo Carso aboard a white FIAT Mobi vehicle, apparently left a bar in the area to head down 23rd Street between 30th and 32nd.
The same neighborhood witnesses affirm that the occupants were visibly drunk, which triggered a series of tragic decisions.
The compact car was traveling from north to south on 23rd Street, so when it reached the intersection with 30th Street, it ran the stop sign and hit a tricycle.
The tricycle driver suffered serious injuries to his leg, but those responsible did not stop. In their escape, they accelerated even more, until they ran the red light at the intersection of 28th and 26th-A Streets.
It was at this last intersection where their recklessness culminated in tragedy.
Pedro Alberto C. M., 44 years old, known as “Pewas”, was driving a red Volkswagen Gol on 26th-A with preference from east to west.
In this way, the FIAT brutally hit the rear right side of Pewas’ vehicle, causing his car with license plate ZCW 415-A to turn 180 degrees and end up on the sidewalk.
Immediately after, the FIAT with license plate YWD 861-E crashed into two other parked motorcycle taxis and finally stopped its march crashing into the wall of a property.
Although the paramedics quickly arrived at the area of the accident, they could not do anything to save the life of “El Pewas”, who died on the spot shortly after the collision.
Residents of the area, alarmed by the disaster, called 911 and prevented the driver, approximately 21 years old, and his companion from escaping.
Sources nearby reported that the alcohol level of the young man, a resident of the San José Tecoh neighborhood in Mérida, exceeded 260 degrees.
The Hunucmaenses deeply regret the loss and the disaster caused by a recklessness that could have been avoided, because as ironies of fate Pedro Alberto (aka el Pewas), had been sober for more than 21 years, and that night he was on his way to an AA Group.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old active alcoholic would cause an accident that will mark his entire life and will face a criminal process for reckless homicide.
El Pewas was the father of a 13-year-old girl and a 21-year-old boy.
The Yucatan Times sends its deepest condolences to the family of Pedro Alberto.
