Tropical Storm Sara caused flooding and damage in various areas of Chetumal, reported Mara Lezama, governor of Quintana Roo. With maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and gusts of up to 85 km/h, the meteorological phenomenon was on Sunday morning, November 17, 145 kilometers from Belize and 245 kilometers south-southeast of the capital of Quintana Roo.

Given the storm’s impact, the governor ordered the preventive evacuation of Banco Chinchorro, an important biosphere reserve in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco. This location, known for its coral ecosystems, faced significant risks due to the intense winds associated with the storm.

The State Civil Protection Coordination deployed operations to care for those affected by the rains and flooding. In the most affected areas, they delivered roofing sheets and direct assistance to families who lost part of their assets due to strong winds.

Although the south of Quintana Roo is on blue alert, authorities insist that citizens remain informed through official sources and report any incident. The rains will persist during the next few hours, increasing the risk of damage in the region.
