The Yucatán Xmatkuil Fair 2024 will be open from November 8 to December 1 and is a unique opportunity to discover the wonders of Yucatán through its livestock, crafts, gastronomy, and cultural wealth.
With a spectacular opening ceremony, featuring fireworks and music, the Governor of Yucatán, Joaquín Díaz Mena, kicked off the Yucatán Xmatkuil 2024 Fair, the most important event in southeastern Mexico. On this occasion, the governor was accompanied by his wife, teacher Wendy Méndez Naal, as well as local and state authorities, such as the Governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandón Cadenas, and the head of IMSS-Bienestar, Alejandro Svarch Pérez.
Governor Díaz Mena highlighted the relevance of the fair as an event that celebrates the identity of the Yucatecans, promoting the history, culture, and traditions of the state. In his message, he highlighted the investments made by his Government, over 60 million pesos, to improve the infrastructure of the fairgrounds, with the modernization of facilities such as the palenque, the exhibition halls, and the bathrooms, as well as the installation of biodigesters that reinforce the commitment to sustainability and care for the environment.
From the heart of the fairgrounds, in Plaza Izamal, Díaz Mena thanked Chiapas for its participation as the Guest State of Honor, whose cultural contribution enriches the experience of attendees and strengthens ties between both regions of the country. He also stressed the importance of this event for the economy and culture of Yucatán and anticipated that the 2024 edition would be a success.
As part of the celebrations, Díaz Mena announced that, for the first time, the Yucatán Xmatkuil Fair will host the Tú Awards, an event that will reward the most influential figures on social media. He also highlighted the celebration of the fair’s golden anniversary, which will be marked by surprises and shows, including performances by national and international artists, as well as the recovery of the traditional Gran Vaquería and the election of the Fair Ambassador, in which young people from all municipalities of the state participated.
To exceed three million visitors, the Yucatán Xmatkuil 2024 Fair is consolidated as an economic and cultural engine of the region, offering a unique experience for all attendees, who will be able to enjoy a livestock, artisan, gastronomic and cultural exhibition without equal.
The Governor also took the opportunity to recall the recent announcement about the expansion of the Mérida International Airport ‘Manuel Crescencio Rejón’, which will receive an investment of 2,150 million pesos from Grupo ASUR, which will further strengthen Yucatán’s connectivity with the rest of the world.
