This weekend is long due to the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, but there is also commercial activity through El Buen Fin.

Rebeca Bravo, promotion director of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, reported that occupancy in the hotels in downtown Cancun is currently at 60%.

However, as domestic tourists often make last-minute reservations, this figure is expected to increase to 70%, with an average stay of four nights.

Looking ahead to the end-of-year season, occupancy in the Cancun hotel zone also projects growth.

Expectations are 85%, which could rise to 95%, driven by promotional strategies and reservations.

The downtown hotels, which stand out for offering cultural experiences and affordable prices, have 72 lodging centers and a total of 7,300 rooms.

In Playa del Carmen, occupancy in October was 45%, revealed Offner Arjona, president of the Small Hotels Association.

However, he noted that since the beginning of November, thanks to festivities such as the Day of the Dead and the next long weekend, occupancy could reach between 65% and 70%.

“Although rates have not yet achieved a total recovery, small hotels, which number around 200 and offer 600 rooms in the center of Playa, hope to close the month with better figures,” commented Arjona.

Likewise, for the winter season, 90% occupancy is projected in the second half of December and 95% during New Year’s week.

The above is supported by promotional campaigns from the municipal Tourism Secretariat and business alliances. In 2023, the November long weekend generated an economic impact of 33,628 million pesos nationwide, according to the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
