A man identified as Lázaro del Carmen L.B., 45 years old, set off the alarms of the emergency services after he climbed a high-voltage pole of the Federal Electricity Commission.

The incident occurred at the entrance to Kanasín, on 69th and 44th Streets, when a man from Huimanguillo, Tabasco, climbed the high-voltage pole.

It turned out that the man was under the influence of some intoxicant. In addition, he was carrying a sword, with which he intended to cut a metal part of the post.

Witnesses who were circulating in the area alerted the authorities when they realized that the individual was putting his life at risk.

The above led to the mobilization of the emergency forces, agents from the Ministry of Public Security, and personnel from the Fire Department arriving at the site. They used a ladder mounted on a truck to approach the man.

It was learned that they spoke with him while he was trying to cut a piece of metal with his sword. After a while, the man came down from the pole and climbed onto a roof near the pole, from where he was then taken down and taken to the Psychiatric Hospital to be treated.

This is the third case of people scaling high-voltage towers in Mérida so far this year. The most recent was on November 6, 2024, when a young teenager climbed a tower west of the city.
