Quintana Roo has established itself as a benchmark in medical tourism in Mexico, experiencing annual growth of 15 to 20% in the last decade, even during the pandemic.

Andrés Jurado Viera, president of the Coparmex Medical Tourism Commission in Quintana Roo, reported that the state receives between 20,000 and 25,000 international patients each year, generating an annual economic benefit of 180 to 200 million pesos.

Cancun stands out as the main medical tourism destination in the north of Quintana Roo, with a network of seven hospitals that comply with Mexican regulations and offer quality care to foreign patients.

Of these hospitals, three already have international certifications, and the rest are in the process of obtaining them.

These health centers provide services such as plastic surgery, dentistry, fertility, and orthopedic surgery, among others. Among the most requested services are dentistry, plastic surgery, fertility, and orthopedics.

Likewise, the state has more than 20 certified plastic surgeons and clinics specializing in ophthalmology, aesthetic medicine, and hair treatments.

In the field of addiction rehabilitation, clinics in Quintana Roo have begun to implement innovative therapies such as the use of ibogaine for the treatment of chemical dependency.

During 2023, Quintana Roo recorded an 18% increase in the number of tourists visiting the state specifically to receive medical treatments.

This increase reflects the preference for the state as a medical tourism destination, thanks to its offer of high-quality services, competitive prices, and proximity to countries such as the United States and Latin American nations.
