The park of the Barrio Mágico (Magical Neighborhood) of La Ermita de Santa Isabel will be the scene of the Fifth Feria del Panucho, an event that combines the best of gastronomy, traditions, and cultural offerings of Mérida.
The fair will have 30 exhibitors and will take place next Friday, November 29, starting at 5 p.m., to the delight of locals and tourists.
Armando Casares Espinosa, technical secretary of the Tourism Unit of the Mérida City Council, explained that the event will offer a variety of traditional and panuchos (such as those with egg and “relleno negro”) at a unified price of 18 pesos.
There will also be promotions such as a package of three panuchos for 50 pesos and the delivery of a commemorative thermos when purchasing 10 panuchos. Drinks will be available for 20 pesos, which ensures an accessible experience for all attendees.
“The fair emerged as a citizen initiative of the La Ermita de Santa Isabel union, which gives it a high social value and strengthens the cultural identity of the neighborhood. It is also an engine for the enrichment of Mérida’s tourist offer,” said Casares.
The Panucho Fair not only celebrates the gastronomic wealth of Yucatán, but it is also an inclusive and environmentally responsible event, so attendees are invited to bring their own containers and arrive by bicycle or on foot to take care of the environment and guarantee that everyone’s safety.
The cultural program includes family friendly activities such as the Legends Tour of La Ermita de Santa Isabel at 7 p.m.; the presentation of Las Trovadoras del Mayab at 7:45 p.m.; and a comedy show at 9 p.m.
The 30 vendors, explained the municipal official, have been trained by Municipal Civil Protection in food handling and hygiene, ensuring the quality and safety of the products offered. The production of 8,000 panuchos is expected.
“The Panucho Fair is an event that highlights the city’s identity, as do activities such as the Paseo de las Ánimas and the Mucbipollo Fair. This is part of what we have promoted in cities like Mexico City to highlight the cultural and tourist value of Mérida,” concluded Casares Espinosa.
