In seven weekends of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s government, federal authorities have recorded 1,106 intentional homicides committed on Saturdays and Sundays.

This last weekend (Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17), federal authorities recorded more than 149 homicides.

Among the most violent cases are the multiple homicides that occurred in an armed attack at the ‘Bling Bling’ bar in Cuautitlán Izcalli in the State of Mexico, which is presumed to have been planned by ‘El Buchanas’, a criminal leader who disputes the area with the Nuevo Imperio Cartel. This event resulted in the death of six people.

Guanajuato, the State of Mexico, and Sinaloa are the three entities that have registered the most murders on Saturdays and Sundays of this new government.

According to official information, the most violent weekend that has occurred during the current administration is the most recent (recorded), corresponding to November 9 and 10. To this end, 182 murders were recorded in Mexico.

A second weekend with a high number of homicides occurred on October 12 and 13, when 181 crimes of this type occurred in Mexico.

Another violent event that occurred over the weekend and that has also gained national relevance was the one that occurred in the Los Cantaritos bar in Querétaro, where 10 people were murdered. Regarding this last event, the president herself said that they were going after a specific person, and a suspected perpetrator was arrested.

In response to this problem, the federal security secretary, Omar García Harfuch, and the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri, held a meeting to discuss actions to follow to combat crime.

To combat violence in the country, the federal government announced a strategy based on addressing the causes, inter-institutional coordination, and the use of intelligence to combat crime.

On this matter, last week the Senate unanimously approved a bill on security matters that seeks to reform Article 21 of the Constitution to integrate the federal Security Secretariat into the group of institutions that can investigate crimes in the country.

This reform must now be approved in the Lower House of Congress so that it can be passed on to the state congresses. If at least 17 approve it, President Claudia Sheinbaum will be able to publish the Reform to Article 21 of the Mexican Constitution in the Official Gazette of the Federation so that it becomes law.
