A new conflict between Ejidatarios and the Secretariat of National Defense is taking place in the Maya zone of Quintana Roo, where they dispute the ownership of a property of several hectares in the center of the municipal capital and that this Friday, November 8th, was seized by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo.

During the early hours of this Friday, a large contingent of the Attorney General’s Office of the State (FGE), National Guard (GN), and State Police, carried out an operation at the site known as Expo Maya.

The agents of the FGE placed seals and tarps to protect the plot, preventing access to anyone while the judicial process that seeks to determine the legitimate owner of the disputed land is carried out.

There was a group of members of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Ejido in the area, who for several days had been guarding the site, to prevent the Sedena from starting construction work.

According to the information, there are 200 homes for soldiers in the area, where the Expo Maya fair is traditionally held, with cultural events from the region, since the Army claims to have legal possession of the property.

However, locals claim that these are lands owned by the ejido, and they also claim that other lands were given to the Sedena at the exit to Mérida, although a document presented by military representatives indicates that the property was ceded to the Sedena.

After the seizure, the Ejidatarios decided to block the work on the project called Puerta al Mar, which the army is also carrying out to connect the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto with Sian Ka’an.

Although military representatives attended the site, the protesters have conditioned the return of Expo Maya in exchange for freeing access to the works.

As of the closing of the edition, no authority had issued any official information about this mega operation in the Mayan zone of Quintana Roo.
