On November 30, starting at 6 p.m., the main square of Bacalar (next to Fort San Felipe) will be filled with music, art, and tradition in the second edition of the Ch’i’ibal Sound Fest. This festival-free event celebrates our native languages and the power of culture.
This edition’s poster features the participation of great talents, such as Belle, Ch’umilkaj, Killbeat, Zara Monroy, Tzutu Kan, Pat Boy, and Pato Machete with Ronda Machetera. In addition, attendees will enjoy a forum of emerging artists and activities that show the richness of native roots on November 30 and December 1.
This year’s experiences include the participation of Guatemala as a guest country, highlighting its rich cultural heritage in music, gastronomy, and textiles. In addition, there will be the exhibition “Untranslatable”, which explores unique concepts of the native languages, and a gastronomic sample with authentic flavors of the Mayan communities.
There will also be a space to purchase traditional crafts that highlight local creativity. The festival will offer Mayan worldview workshops, sessions to promote native languages and activities focused on inclusion, non-discrimination, and environmental education, reflecting the commitment to diversity and respect.
This event has the support of the municipality of Bacalar, Corona, and Culture Box, as well as the Secretariat of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Unesco, the Embassy of Guatemala in Mexico, and several Mexican companies.
