The renovated viewpoint of the Lucas de Gálvez market, called “La Nueva Placita”, has become a gastronomic meeting point in the heart of Mérida.

Overlooking the City Museum, this space allows visitors to enjoy a wide range of traditional Yucatecan dishes, such as beef broth, tripe, cochinita, Chocolomo, and papadzules, among others.

With prices ranging between 50 and 80 pesos per order, “La Nueva Placita” is an option for those who want to experience local cuisine and visit the crafts area.

Although weekends, especially Sundays, are when it receives the greatest influx of people, both locals and tourists point out that there are some aspects that can still be improved for the viewpoint to reach its true potential.

One of the recurring aspects that the tenants demanded is the need for the escalator. Although ready for use, it has not yet been inaugurated, limiting access for visitors, especially those with reduced mobility.

In addition, several tenants stated that the staircase would also facilitate the transfer of goods, which would represent a direct benefit for them.

Another aspect that has caught the attention of visitors is the lack of water in the bathrooms since only the sink has it. Buckets were placed for users to carry water and clean toilet bowls, which generated discomfort among attendees.

In addition to the escalator and improved health services, some merchants suggested that organizing cultural activities, such as exhibitions or events, would help attract more audiences.

They told the tenants that events would be held to attract more people, but so far there have been none. However, they hope that the space will soon be used to create a more attractive and diverse environment.
