On November 24, the 14th edition of the Mérida Houses Tour will take place. This tour will exhibit eight homes located in the Yucatecan capital and, on this occasion, extend beyond the Historic Center, seeking to revitalize the architectural value of housing in traditional neighborhoods.
Henry Ponce, architect and founder of the Yucatán Art and Design Center (Cady), commented that for this year, four of the homes that will be exhibited will be in the Historic Center and the other four in neighborhoods, since the purpose is to revitalize those residential areas of the city.
“Eight properties are going to open, are houses I have designed. Four are in the center and the other four are in other areas of the city, but they deserve to be observed, they are worth revitalizing and we want to promote the neighborhoods Itzminá, México and Alcalá Martín, with the intention that people “turn to see,” he indicated.
He mentioned that these properties represent the best in architecture and interior design in Mérida, with avant-garde, innovative, mixed, restaurant, and eclectic proposals, inspired by international capitals such as Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City and that form part of the modernist movement.
Tiky de Velasco, co-founder of Cady, said that four days before, on November 20, workshops and talks about the modern movement will be held within its facilities, focused on architecture students, an event that is with a cause since the proceeds from the tickets will be donated to Amanc Yucatán.
Regarding the colloquia, he commented that Felipe Leal, architect and urban planner from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) will offer a talk on the need to revitalize forgotten housing areas, such as the Itzminá, México and Alcalá Martín neighborhoods that will participate in the Tour de Houses.
The architect mentioned that the Catalan architect Miquel Adriá will also participate, and will speak about the modern movement, a colloquium that seeks to raise awareness about the preservation of this discipline in the city, an event that will be held from 5 to 10 at night and where the participants They will be able to have access to a workshop and other activities.
Tickets for these activities can be obtained directly at Amanc, whose hostel is located on 59th Street, 90th and 92nd Street in the Bojórquez neighborhood; H Ponce Arquitectos, located on 29th Street, 10th and 12th in the México neighborhood and in the Cady offices in Chuburná.
