Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena received representatives of the United States Embassy, headed by Mark Johnson, deputy chief of mission of the United States Embassy in Mexico.
Mérida, Yucatán (November 13, 2024).- Through cooperation on issues such as security, sustainability, economic growth, connectivity, and infrastructure, the government of Joaquín Díaz Mena reaffirmed the ties of brotherhood with the United States, to continue working hand in hand and achieve the well-being of the families of both nations.
At the headquarters of the Executive Branch, the governor met with representatives of the US embassy, headed by Mark Johnson, where he reiterated Yucatán’s willingness to offer spaces for foreign investment, since, due to its geographical location, it is an ideal logistical platform to take advantage of nearshoring.
In this regard, Díaz Mena recalled that the axis of the Maya Renaissance proposal was to carry out development works with shared prosperity, such as the modernization of the Deepwater Port of Progreso, which will allow the arrival of larger cargo ships and cruise ships, as well as the connection of the Maya Train with the port of Progreso, facilitating the transfer of goods that arrive through the Transisthmian train to the east coast of the United States, with whom Yucatan maintains an important commercial exchange.
Diaz Mena also mentioned the Wellbeing Poles and the natural gas project that will allow Yucatan to have energy at a lower cost, the Metropolitan Ring of Mérida to relieve the city’s traffic, and the expansion of the airport to improve its connectivity.
“We are open, of course, to receive investments from the United States companies that are interested in these infrastructure conditions that we will make available soon,” he said.
Before Justen Thomas, Consul General of the United States in Mérida, and the head of the General Secretariat of Government (SGG), Omar Pérez Avilés, the governor detailed the joint axes of cooperation, which range from the environment, security, economic growth and nearshoring to agro-industrial strengthening.
He also highlighted the Yucatán Verde program, which includes the development of the coastal zone, competitive electric energy, promotion of natural gas, wind, and solar potential, the production of green hydrogen, the professionalization of security elements, investment in technology, support for Yucatecan artisans, and the strengthening of English proficiency, among others.
In his turn, Mark Johnson recognized Yucatán as an example of a safe state, with economic development, respect for people, and an excellent place to visit and live.
