Joaquín Díaz Mena took advantage of his visit to Mexico City to promote the Xmatkuil 2024 International Fair to announce the project to expand the Mérida International Airport.
The Governor reiterated the creation of the so-called Mundo Maya Circuit together with the states of Tabasco, Campeche, Chiapas and Quintana Roo to increase tourism in the region.
Díaz Mena announced that he will implement the expansion of the Mérida International Airport with an investment of more than two billion pesos to boost connectivity in the state and attract national and international tourism.
In this regard, Díaz Mena added that the works carried out in conjunction with Grupo Asur will make this air terminal a point of attraction for American tourists and that many Yucatecans can travel directly to various entities of the American Union.
Likewise, he reiterated his important projects during his administration, such as the modernization of the Progreso deep-sea port; taking the Mayan Train from Umán to Progreso for the transportation of cargo and passengers; creating well-being hubs with natural gas and the Metropolitan Ring of Merida; in addition to promoting tourism and creating better-paid jobs to reduce inequality.

The Governor emphasized that these projects represent a logistics platform that will bring international companies closer to take advantage of nearshoring. Taking advantage of Yucatan’s geographic location with respect to the United States to trade various products.
He also said that the aim is to connect the Mayan Train with Progreso and with the Trans-Isthmus Train and offer an exit from Salina Cruz to the Asian continent, with which Yucatan will be integrated into the industrial corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to offer an investment option in the state, with natural gas and all the clean energy services that will be promoted in the coming years.
