With two weeks to go until the end of the year, Yucatán has already surpassed last year’s record. While 2023 closed with 230 reports, up to week 49 of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System this year, 232 cases have already been registered.
It is expected that, during the high season in December, the number will increase by at least a dozen, following the trend of last year, when 216 cases were reported in the same period, representing an increase of 5.94 percent.
Celebrations such as the Guadalupe-Reyes marathon, which runs from December to the beginning of January, contribute to increased consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Internist Raúl Aguilar Morales explained that acute alcohol poisoning is a dangerous condition that affects the central nervous system, breathing, and vital body functions.
The specialist called on citizens to moderate alcohol consumption and remember that acute poisoning can be prevented with simple measures, such as not drinking excessively, alternating alcoholic beverages with water, and never mixing alcohol with other drugs or substances.
