The State Civil Protection operation carried out between December 22 and 24, 2024 in Mérida and its communities resulted in the seizure of more than 1,300 pounds of fireworks.

The main reasons for the seizure were the lack of required security measures and the sale of products to minors, according to authorities.

The merchants were found failing to comply with various regulations. For example, many did not have adequate fire extinguishers, and some even had expired extinguishers.

Additionally, several vendors possessed excessive amounts of fireworks, putting public safety at risk. Sales to minors were also highlighted as one of the most serious infractions during the operation.

The operation, which had the collaboration of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), National Guard and Municipal Police, will continue on December 29, 30 and 31. The objective is to safeguard the safety of Yucatecan families and prevent possible accidents due to the improper use of fireworks.
