As part of the events that will be held for the Mérida Fest 2025 dedicated to the anniversary of the Yucatecan capital, it has been confirmed that the singer Mon Laferte will lead the festivities.

The Mérida Fest will celebrate the 483 years of a city that lives unity and citizen participation in art and culture, announced the municipal president Cecilia Patrón Laviada, when presenting the wide and varied program of activities that will take place from January 5 to 26.

Mérida was founded on January 6, 1542, by Don Francisco de Montejo “El Mozo”, who named it Mérida because the ancient pre-Hispanic buildings reminded him of the Roman ruins that are preserved in the homonymous city of Extremadura, Spain.

The city center was reserved for the Plaza Mayor and the sacred stones from the indigenous temples were used to build the houses and public buildings for the conquerors, such as the Royal Houses and the Cabildo, as well as the temples of the new Christian faith, among which the Cathedral of San Ildefonso stands out.
