A young woman in Yucatán rescued an injured margay, which was on the side of the road near the municipality of Dzan, Yucatán.
Cecilia Interián Novelo, a resident of the region, shared on her social networks how this chance encounter made it possible to provide immediate attention to the animal, which is now under veterinary care.
Cecilia related that while returning from Ticul, she noticed a young man next to the road who seemed to have suffered an accident.
However, as he got closer, he discovered that he was trying to help a margay that seemed to have been run over.
The young man, whose identity is not known, entrusted the care of the animal to Cecilia, who immediately took it to a veterinarian to guarantee its recovery and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
The margay, a 4.6 kg male, was taken to a local veterinarian where he was administered painkillers to relieve the pain.
The first medical examinations confirmed that he was stable, although he would undergo x-rays to rule out major injuries.
Cecilia mentioned that she has received guidance to deliver the animal to PROFEPA, where they can guarantee its rehabilitation and subsequent reintegration into its natural habitat.
The incident highlights the importance of protecting wildlife, especially in regions like Yucatán, where species such as the ocelot face constant threats from human activity.
This young man’s act and Cecilia’s quick intervention are a reminder of the impact that small actions have on the preservation of wildlife.
