On Wednesday, December 11, Cozumel broke a record. The jewel of the Mexican Caribbean starts the high season with an impressive record: 35 cruise ships arrived on the island during the first half of December, according to Vagner Elbiorn Vega, director of the Comprehensive Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO).
This milestone consolidates Cozumel as one of the most outstanding maritime tourist destinations in the world.
In a statement, it was reported that that day marked a historic day with the simultaneous arrival of eight floating hotels, including giants such as the Icon of the Seas and the Voyager of the Seas.
In total, approximately 29,807 passengers descended to enjoy the natural beauties, hospitality, and quality services that characterize Cozumel.
Cruise ships that arrived at the island during the week include other notable names such as the MSC Seaside and the Sun Princess.
This level of port activity not only highlights the preference of shipping companies for Cozumel but also the joint effort between authorities, companies, and the local community to offer an exceptional experience to visitors.
Elbiorn highlighted that these achievements are a reflection of the commitment to a sustainable tourism model, aligned with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama.
Additionally, this approach seeks to distribute the benefits of tourism among all families in the state, while preserving the natural and cultural resources of the region.
“We are committed to tourism that not only boosts our economy but also preserves the unique richness of Cozumel,” said Elbiorn.
