With an approximate investment of 250 million pesos, next year the Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur) will begin the construction of a new terminal at the Cozumel International Airport.

At a press conference, Jorge Campos Romero, who until today served as the airport administrator, reported that this new building will be connected to the current one and it is estimated that it could be completed by 2027 or 2028.

“Our master development plan responds to demand capacity programs, these mathematical analyses tell us which areas are following a five-year projection,” he said.

He pointed out that this new terminal will have a larger documentation area, where the number of counters will be increased, and a waiting room with double the capacity.

He ruled out the possibility of an extension of the runways, where only a major rehabilitation is carried out within those scheduled every five years, however, he stressed that they have had a growth in the platform, going from six gates to eight. During the same press conference, the new administrator of the Cozumel airport, Pablo Esteban Arjona, was introduced. He will replace Jorge Campos, who will now be in charge of the Oaxaca International Airport.
