The Secretariat of Culture and Arts of Yucatán (Sedeculta) reported through social media that the Great Museum of the Mayan World will remain closed due to damage caused by an electrical overload in northern Mérida.
The incident, which occurred on December 11, affected the facilities, forcing its administration to temporarily suspend activities. Over the weekend, several tourists and local visitors came to the museum and left disappointed to see that it was not open.
“The Museum will remain closed while our maintenance teams work to resolve the situation,” Sedeculta said.
The Great Museum of the Mayan World, one of the most emblematic cultural venues in the state, houses an important historical collection and organizes exhibitions on the cultural wealth of the region.
The authorities hope to reopen the doors soon to welcome visitors interested in learning about the Mayan legacy.
So far, an estimated date for reopening has not been released. Interested visitors should follow the Secretariat’s social networks for future announcements.
