At the end of this year, Cancun expects to exceed the annual average hotel occupancy by at least 5% compared to 2023, when it reached 75%.

Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo, municipal secretary of Tourism of Benito Juárez, highlighted that the goal for December is to ensure that 90% of the hotel rooms are occupied, translating into a record number of tourists.

De Zulueta Razo assured that the destination received more than 32.7 million tourists in 2023, two million more than in 2022. “It is a good balance,” he commented.

The secretary pointed out that the growing confidence of tourists in the destination is reflected in continuous investment, the creation of new infrastructure, and the expanded hotel offering.

He said this shows that Cancun continues to be an attractive destination for international tourism.

This year, Cancun received awards at the prestigious World Travel Awards, surpassing the successes of 2023.

Zulueta Razo highlighted the recognition received for the first time for the work of the municipal tourism office. “That means we are doing things right,” he said.

In addition, the secretary highlighted the importance of working as a team to maintain Cancun’s leadership in the international tourism field.

The Colombian market has shown significant growth, along with the British market, as part of the tourism recovery. This became clear at the recent World Travel Market in London.

De Zulueta also announced that Virgin Atlantic Airlines will open a new route to Cancun at the end of 2024, reinforcing the destination’s presence in the international market. The municipal secretary of Tourism expressed his interest in strengthening the presence of Cancun in South America, especially in Brazil and Argentina.
