The Governor of Yucatan stated that the historic investment destined for the expansion of the Deepwater Port of Progreso will position this infrastructure as one of the six most important strategic ports in Mexico. He described the announcement as a watershed for the economic development of the state and a historic opportunity to improve the well-being of the Yucatecans.
Díaz Mena thanked President Claudia Sheinbaum for the announcement made this morning at her morning press conference.
The governor reported that the investment for Puerto Progreso will be joint: “In the case of Progreso, which is a joint investment with the State Government, we are going to expand the remote terminal of Puerto Progreso to turn it into the most important port on the Yucatan Peninsula, which allows or guarantees the movement of goods to the peninsula and other parts of the world.”
Accompanied by the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Díaz Mena addressed a message to Yucatán where he highlighted the importance of the announcement that will allow the modernization of the Port of Progreso, in addition to being “the beginning of the construction of the Mayan Renaissance.”
The governor stressed that the expansion project of the Deepwater Port of Progreso will become a strategic work that will be executed as planned, with a historic investment for the peninsula region.
During the announcement, he stressed that this initiative will not only strengthen the state’s infrastructure but will be a key pillar for the economic and logistical development of the peninsula.
“This project consolidates Yucatán as a strategic axis in national and international maritime trade. It is a work that will open new opportunities for our productive sectors, generating jobs and improving the state’s competitiveness,” the governor said.
He reiterated that the work will mark a before and after in the port and economic development of Yucatán, positioning it as a logistical reference in the country.
This joint effort between the state and federal governments promises to bring great benefits to the Yucatecan population, as well as to the industrial sectors that depend on the port as a strategic trade node.
In the morning press conference this Thursday, the general director of Port Development and Administration of the Navy Secretariat (Semar), Marco Antonio Martínez Blancarte, announced that the expansion project of the Deepwater Port of Progreso is firm and will be launched as planned, with an investment of 7.9 billion pesos.
He stressed the relevance of this work for the region: “The plan includes the construction of an 80-hectare platform, which will include a shipyard and terminals specialized in the handling of mineral bulk, liquefied gas, oil, and containers.”
With this infrastructure, Yucatán will be better prepared to meet the demands of global trade and encourage new investments in key sectors. The project, which will be supervised by the Navy Secretariat, is moving forward with a vision of sustainability and respect for the environment, he assured.
