The mayor of Merida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada announced that as part of maintaining security in the city, the Neighborhood Watch strategy starts today with 400 Meridians grouped in a committee.

“These responsible civilians, who will be chaired by a person and formed by at least four other people, will become a link with the City Council on issues of community surveillance, and they will report any irregularity and will receive training,” the Mayor highlighted.

She explained that these people will have a catalog of services at their disposal so that they know where to go and report.

“They will be eyes to multiply the work of the City Council and so that above all we take care of each other, security is fundamental for us,” she stressed.

Regarding the accumulation of garbage, the mayor indicated that work is being done on those clandestine points where waste is dumped, but also on informing the population that leaving garbage on the street is a crime. She also said that clean-up campaigns will be carried out throughout the city.
