On Monday, December 2nd, state and municipal authorities, headed by Governor Mara Lezama, presented the brand “Playa del Carmen”, to promote this tourist destination worldwide.
During a grand event held this afternoon at the Teatro de la Ciudad, Governor Mara Lezama highlighted that this launch is an important step to keep the destination current within the great tourist offer of the world.
She stressed that this new image marks a restart to reinvent itself and consolidate the vision of the municipality that is committed to inclusion and prosperity, generating opportunities for all.
“In this tourist competition, we have to attract tourists and make them return again and again,” she said.
For her part, Estefanía Mercado, municipal president, highlighted the role of 25 artisans who were fundamental to this project, recalling the roots and richness of the city’s history.
She pointed out that this project will implement technological tools to improve the experience of travelers, with free Wi-Fi points, in addition to new attractions that will mark the future of Playa del Carmen.
She also mentioned that more than 3 thousand providers of tourist services will be trained, from guides to taxi drivers to build a culture of service.
During his speech, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur), pointed out that the presentation of the city brand not only represents a change in the image of the destination but also a growth for the municipality, generating a sense of belonging.
He highlighted that, from January to August, Playa del Carmen received more than 2 million tourists, consolidating itself as one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico.
He mentioned that Playa del Carmen will be incorporated into many public policy schemes that are improving the way of managing tourist activity with greater sustainability, to achieve a diverse destination and improve tourist services in the region.
During the event, the mayor, the secretary of tourism, and the governor signed the agreement for the well-being and development of Quintana Roo, to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of tourism in the municipality of Solidaridad.
