Wilberth Nahuat, commissioner of Santa María Chi, will meet with representatives of the UN to address the pollution and water contamination caused by the pig farm there.
The case of Santa María Chi, whose community has been severely affected by the contamination of the Grupo San Gerardo pig farm, has crossed borders and in the coming days representatives of the United Nations Organization (UN Mexico) will go to the farm to verify the situation.
This was confirmed by Commissioner Wilberth Nahuat Puc, who also shared that the defense of his people against the threat of the Santa María Farm will be discussed in the panel discussion “Our rights, our future now!”, which will be held at the Peninsular Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (Cephcis) UNAM.
Both events will take place on successive days, the visit to the rural community on December 7, and the meeting at Cephcis on the 8th. This was before the appearance of Nahuat Puc in the Second Control Court of the First Judicial District of the State’s Accusatory and Oral Criminal Justice System. This hearing is public and is scheduled for December 12 at 11:00 a.m.
The commissioner was summoned for unfounded charges by the San Gerardo group, which accuses him of alleged “kidnapping” of its employees, when, in reality, he only denied the entry and exit of personnel and trucks during a demonstration last year.
For now, the notoriety of the case has caused the Mérida City Council to have the police station on its agenda, something that did not happen during the entire previous administration. “I know very well where I have not yet arrived,” said Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, pointing to Nahuat Puc itself, during the recent presentation of certificates to the commissioners.
The Mayor was aware that she had not visited Santa María Chi, as part of her tours of the police stations, and reiterated her commitment to be present in all of them during each semester.
This was in response to what was shared on the official social networks of Santa María Chi, in which they asked why Cecilia Patrón did not come to the town the day she visited Yaxché Casares, which is located one kilometer away. “The community expressed that the Mayor and her entourage are welcome,” the publication indicated.
