The plan to reactivate the Chichén Itzá airport, located in the municipality of Kaua, is taking more and more shape because, in addition to the arrival of small aircraft from Quintana Roo with tourists, it is also used by cargo transport companies.
On Saturday, December 28, a small plane arrived with 23 passengers from Toluca who visited the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, announced Armando Geded Lope, who is a delegate of the Tourism Business Council (Cetur) and member of the Consulting Council of the air terminal.
A few days ago, businessmen from the tourism industry, led by Jorge Carrillo Sanz, president of Cetur, took a tour of the airport.
The president of Cetur said that the Chichén Itzá airport, as it is known, will be a trigger for the growth of the eastern part of the state in many sectors, especially in tourism.
He added that it will allow national and international tourists, lovers of archeology, culture, and gastronomy, to more easily visit this area of Yucatan that has a lot to offer. Gilmer Estrada Herrera, Cetur delegate in Izamal, also attended the tour that took place at the air terminal; Jordy Abraham Martínez, coordinator of Cetur delegations, and Jorge Torre Loría, tourism businessman and former Secretary of Tourism.
On the same topic, Geded Lope commented that with the arrival of some aircraft at the airport, work can begin with the “Sleep One More Night in Valladolid” plan and it is only a matter of maturing the project.
Likewise, he recalled that during the visit they made, they were informed that in addition to the small ships that bring tourists, every day a cargo plane arrives from Mexico City that leaves packages and returns in search of more cargo to bring, so that Yes, it is operating, but it is not yet doing so commercially.
On Saturday, a ship arrived from Toluca, with 23 passengers on board who visited the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá and would return to their place of origin in the afternoon.
The Cetur delegate said that he is personally making alliances with high-end hotels to bring VIP tourists who come by helicopter to the airport and arrive in this city.
The airport can serve to bring premium-level clients to the destination of Valladolid because it is in “the center of the Mayan world” and there can be charters. Operators must be found to operate the routes of the five states of the Mayan World and the Central American countries that belong to the Mayan World region, which is now being worked on, reported Geded Lope.
