Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena was the honorary witness of the couples from 76 municipalities of the state who said “yes” with the support of the Mayan Renaissance Government.
Among the outstanding couples are María Teodora Canché Cetina and Arcadio Moo Caamal, who formalized their union after almost five decades together. Their relationship has resulted in a solid and large family of 7 children, 26 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
A total of 414 couples, some with more than 60 years sharing their lives, finally formalized their union by getting married in a ceremony led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, who accompanied them in this great step, granting them legal certainty, to them and their families.
In the framework of the 50th anniversary of the Yucatán Xmatkuil 2024 Fair, Díaz Mena, together with the president of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), Wendy Méndez Naal, served as an honorary witness of the legal marriage of men and women from 76 municipalities of the state. This event was possible thanks to the Formalize Your Union program, which seeks those who have not been able to marry to regularize their civil status through the free registration of their marriage and the delivery of the corresponding certificate.
In his message, the Governor congratulated the couples and wished them a life full of love and happiness. “The formalization of their union is a reason for joy because they are building a family prepared to face the challenges and joys of the road together,” Diaz Mena said.
The ceremony was presided over by the director of the Civil Registry, Jorge Carlos de María Ramírez Granados. The engaged couples came from municipalities such as Abalá, Akil, Baca, Bokobá, Buctzotz, Cacalchén, Calotmul, Celestún, Cenotillo, Chacsinkín, among many others.
