To return the natural and archaeological splendor to the Lol-Tun caves, and after improving its security conditions, the site will reopen its doors after five years of being closed to the public.

This agreement was reached after authorities from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and municipal authorities held a working meeting to reopen the site.

Authorities took a tour of the Lol-Tun caves on Tuesday, January 7, where they agreed on the necessary actions to reopen this great site, which is part of the Puuc Route and the State Garden.

After five years of being affected by floods caused by Storm Cristóbal (June 2020), this place will finally be revisited by tourists.

It is worth mentioning that last year they received rehabilitation work to guarantee their safety and preservation.

Lol-Tun, whose name means “Stone Flower” in Mayan, is a cultural and natural reference to Yucatán. Its upcoming reopening represents a great opportunity to reactivate tourism in the area and benefit nearby communities. This space combines history, nature, and deep symbolism for the Mayan culture, giving visitors the possibility of discovering one of the most emblematic treasures of the region. Its opening will take place in the next 60 days, as reported.
