A couple, originally from Tulum, was arrested last night on the Chemax-Coba highway, after allegedly stealing a Pitbull puppy from a house in the ‘Jardines de Pensiones’ subdivision, west of the city of Merida.

The detainees were identified as Martín Alejandro G. M., 40 years old, and Mariana S. J., 33, both residents of Tulum, Quintana Roo, who were recorded by the surveillance cameras of the property where they stole the puppy.

In the images, the man can be seen dragging the animal to put it in a white Audi SUV with Quintana Roo license plates; while the woman walks behind, and then gets into the vehicle.

Hours after the incident, the dog’s owners realized what had happened and reported it to the 911 emergency number, from where the field units were informed and the license plate reading arches were activated to locate the truck.

The arrest was made at the checkpoint of the State Government’s Citizen Security Secretariat, located on the Chemax-Cobá highway. The puppy was found inside the vehicle.

The state police transferred them to the Comprehensive Public Security Center (CISP) in Valladolid and they were placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Yucatán.
