A new episode of violence took place on Friday, January 24 in Celestún after a confrontation between two groups of neighbors over the possession of land escalated alarmingly. The dispute, centered on land located on the road to Xixim, culminated with the overturning of a truck allegedly owned by an individual known as “Lanier.”
According to eyewitnesses, the tension between both groups has been brewing for several months, and on Friday it reached its boiling point.
The truck was overturned in the middle of a confrontation that left the inhabitants of Celestún shocked and fearful for their safety.
Until the latest reports, one of the groups remained stationed in the area of the access bridge to the municipality, which generated a climate of uncertainty and concern among the local population.
Municipal and state authorities arrived at the scene to try to restore order and carry out the corresponding investigations.
So far, no people have been reported arrested or injured due to this confrontation.
