The holiday season celebrations have ended, so families will soon be looking for the right places to place their natural Christmas trees.

As in previous years, a campaign will be launched so that families can take these trees to the Green Points to prevent them from ending up abandoned on the sidewalks.

The main points will be in strategic areas in western Mérida and the public services base on the east side.

Green Points will be found in supermarkets, public parks, and easily accessible places.

The campaign will begin on January 6, coinciding with the end of Christmas celebrations, when many families dismantle their trees and decorations.

Therefore, citizens are invited to keep their trees until the start of the campaign.

Likewise, the City Council (924-40-00) is called to report any irregular situation, such as small trees lying on public roads, since this not only generates a bad appearance in the city but also represents a danger to public safety.

Jorge Alberto Espinosa Atoche, director of Municipal Public Services, explained that natural trees represent a risk due to the highly flammable resins they contain, which could cause fires if someone burns them.

For special cases, such as older adults who cannot move their trees to the Green Points, they are asked to contact the City Council so that City Hall staff can pick them up.

In other cases, citizens are asked to deposit the trees in the designated places.

Espinosa Atoche explained that the collected trees are crushed and reused in specific places. In addition, he invited all the inhabitants of Mérida to follow the City Council’s social networks to stay informed about the campaign and contribute to keeping the city clean, avoiding leaving trees in unauthorized places.
