Four construction workers were injured when the roof they were finishing collapsed on a construction site located on 17th Street of the private Residencial Xcanatún, in the Mérida district of Xcanatún.
The events occurred on Monday, January 20th, when eight builders were working on top of the construction site and, due to the weak shoring it had, it collapsed.
The other colleagues, upon seeing what happened, immediately called 9-1-1 and asked for support. Within minutes, emergency vehicles arrived at the scene and assessed the workers.
Six only suffered bruises and abrasions, but the other two had to be taken to a hospital by ambulances from the Secretariat of Public Security.
Civil Protection staff also arrived at the construction site, northeast of Mérida, to verify that the work had the corresponding permits.
The accident highlights once again the need to strengthen safety measures at construction sites, and all workers must have protective equipment and the necessary tools to prevent accidents.
