With a work based on the toh bird, the well-known painter Selene Pat Herrera and her family participated in the creation of the murals “Art for the community”, which were carried out by a foundation.

45 murals were created last weekend, in a park in the city of Merida, where 82 painters from Yucatan met.

The only representatives from Tizimil were Selene, her two daughters, and her husband, who were in charge of creating the mural measuring 2 x 2.5 meters.

The painter explained that she signed up when the call for entries was opened, but not before talking about one of the topics they were given to choose from: caring for the environment or animals in danger of extinction.

The artist explained that they decided to focus on the Toh bird, which is a bird that is about to disappear.

For the Mayans, this bird represented the connection between the human and the underworld, which is why the mural is called “Mystical Bird,” said the Tizimilan.

She said that this is the first time they have participated, but it is the second time that the foundation has carried out this type of activity.

It was a team effort that began on Sunday, January 26th, at 8 in the morning and ended at 5 in the afternoon.
