The most-watched films during 2024 in France will be screened at the French Film Tour in Mérida.

Cinephiles in Mérida will be able to enjoy the latest in French cinema, through the 28th French Film Tour, which will take place in the city from January 30 to February 8. Victor Morillas, coordinator of El Cine Club, commented that viewers will enjoy seven screenings of the most watched films during 2024 in France, with films ranging from comedy to drama.

In the case of this film cycle, the film proposal covers a “more commercial” range, since they seek to bring a more digestible French cinema that can connect with the largest number of viewers. The screenings will include titles such as Toni and his family, A Difficult Year, The Little Girl, and The Lost Picture. All of these productions were the most consumed in France during the past year, and now they come as a sample for the Yucatecan public.

With more than 13 years of experience in bringing cinema to different cities, El Cine Club is no stranger to the Yucatecan capital. Although its origin is in Playa del Carmen, Mérida has been one of the frequent points where they carry out activities such as film cycles of independent films, from specific countries or various themes. In all cases, says the coordinator, the reception has been positive, so they are always willing to return with new functions.

One of the highlights of the tour, says Morillas, is No Hagas Olas, a feature film that tells the story of a group of teachers who see their reputation and work threatened after they were defamed. Another piece is La Esposa del Presidente, a historical fiction that follows the steps of Bernadette Chirac, wife of the former French president, Jacques Chirac, and what she had to do in life to get out of her husband’s shadow.

In addition to the screenings, the film cycle will also offer a space for discussion of the films that are presented. According to the coordinator, this is one of the most important parts of the experience, as it allows participants to establish ties with other film buffs and appreciate cinema from other perspectives.

The French film tour will start on January 30 and end on February 8. The dates of each screening can be found on El Cine Club’s social networks, as well as on the cineclub.info website.
