24 people were injured three of them seriously, as a consequence of the irresponsible use of fireworks in the southern part of the State of Quintana Roo during this December season, both for the celebrations of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Christmas, and New Year.

The reports from both public and private hospitals revealed that half of the injuries occurred in the rural area, highlighting the accident in which a minor, identified as José, lost his hand when a firecracker known as “Hulk” exploded prematurely.

It destroyed muscles and bones, in addition to causing abundant bleeding. His hand was wrapped in a rag and he was transferred in a private vehicle to a private hospital in the capital.

Both the municipal authorities and the State Coordination of Civil Protection carried out an intense campaign to identify, close, and confiscate the pyrotechnic merchandise considered dangerous.

However, this did not prevent it from being sold mainly through social networks, especially on New Year’s Eve.

In total, approximately 80 thousand pesos worth of these gunpowder products were seized, in addition to sanctions being applied to more than 30 sellers in the city of Chetumal.
